The residents of Olturot experienced a remarkable blend of spiritual nourishment and medical care after a MAF plane landed at a remote airstrip in northern Kenya
On board the aircraft, missionaries, doctors, and veterinary professionals united their efforts to reach out to the community. They treated 2,957 individuals, and 17,518 animals and shared the word of God with 1478 people, resulting in 158 individuals embracing Christ—a heartening outcome of their visit.
Without the flight, which took 1 hour and 40 minutes, the team would have endured over 11 hours on the road – precious time that could have been spent serving the community.
Dr Peterson Karimi, also present at the camp, conveyed his own observations.
"When I witness the transformation of individuals from a state of illness to one of wellness after receiving treatment, it deeply warms my heart and underscores that divine intervention has played a role in their recovery," expressed Dr Peterson.
"We view the medical camp as an avenue to not only provide medical care but also to share the love and teachings of Christ with the community. Our approach encompasses a holistic blend of medical services and spiritual guidance. This distinctive approach sets us apart from conventional humanitarian organizations. Among the specialized services offered, we provided cervical cancer screenings and dental care."
As the sun set each evening, the Jesus film was shown, touching the lives of 1520 people and profoundly impacting over 800 individuals who found solace and hope in Christ.
This collective endeavour brought immense joy and support to the community, leaving a lasting impression on their hearts and minds. On the medical front, the team addressed various prevalent cases, such as respiratory tract infections, fungal infections, back pains, migraines, vertigo, and conjunctivitis, ensuring that the physical well-being of the residents was also taken care of during this transformative event.
Dr Joan Sambu, a dentist who participated in the medical camp, recounted her comprehensive encounter while providing treatments.
"It's an honour for me to be present today, serving individuals needing oral hygiene education and dental examinations as part of my medical role. Among the prevalent dental issues I've encountered, there have been cases of dental cavities, gum infections, and dental fluorosis," shared Dr Joan.
A resident who benefited from the mission expressed his appreciation.
"We extend our gratitude to the mission for providing us with complimentary medical and veterinary services combined with evangelism," he conveyed.
Dr Joel Memusi, who participated in the veterinary camp, also shared his perspective on the mission.
"The prevailing challenge in Olturot revolves around drought, leading many residents to relocate their animals in search of greener pastures. While we couldn’t tend to all animals due to this reason, we did manage to provide significant assistance," Dr Memusi explained.
